The Next Step: Food Movements

Milwaukee is doing awesome things with the slow food movement. Bay Area-resident Michael Pollan acknowledged this when I saw him speak tonight at UWM. There’s no denying that Growing Power is a critical organization both locally and globally. Unfortunately, the local business and political leadership is leap years behind other cities in regards to their contribution to the movement.

Pollan reinforced this by casually mentioning the city-sponsored San Francisco Food Shed study.

That also brought to mind the food-recycling program in San Francisco.

Milwaukee’s leaders aren’t thinking this way. And this is one of the reasons I’m looking west.
